According to Bloomberg, Toyota Motor Corp. sold more passenger cars last year than any other automaker, surpassing Volkswagen Group once again, securing its position as the world's largest automaker for the fourth consecutive year.

On January 30th, Toyota announced that its global sales, including subsidiaries Daihatsu Motor Co. and Hino Motors Ltd., reached a record-breaking 11.2 million units last year, representing a 7.2% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Production volume (referring to cars off the assembly line) also grew by 8.6%, reaching 11.5 million units. In contrast, Volkswagen's deliveries increased by 12% in 2023, reaching 9.24 million units.

Tatsuo Yoshida, Senior Automotive Analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, stated, "Toyota has emerged from last summer's supply chain difficulties."

While Toyota has lagged behind in the global transition to electrification, the recovery of North American and European supply chains and stable demand helped increase Toyota's overseas production and profit last year. Meanwhile, demand for hybrid vehicles remained high and stable in most regions worldwide.
